Your module handbook always comes first, but most business and management case study reports follow this order:

1. Executive summary: the problem, your key findings and your main recommendation in under 200 words.
2. Introduction and context: the organisation, its industry and the situation described in the case.
3. Problem identification: the central issue, separated from its symptoms.
4. Analysis: two or three frameworks applied to evidence from the case.
5. Evaluation of options: the realistic alternatives, compared on cost, risk and fit.
6. Recommendations and implementation: what should happen, who owns it, and over what timeline.
7. Conclusion and references: usually in Harvard style.

Common Mistakes That Cost Marks

• Retelling the case. Your marker has read it. Every paragraph should analyse, not summarise.
• Frameworks without evidence. A PESTLE table with no figures or quotes from the case is description in a grid.
• Vague recommendations. “Improve marketing” earns little; “launch a loyalty scheme for repeat customers within six months, owned by the marketing director” earns marks.
• Unbalanced word count. Spending half the report on background leaves no room for evaluation.
• Weak referencing. Business theory needs citing just like any other source.
